[Europe] Master on Software Engineering by Erasmus Mundus Programmes
European Master on Software Engineering (EMSE)
This is a two years Master Programme on software construction organized by a consortium of 4 leading universities. This Programme belongs to the European uni0n Erasmus Mundus Programme, and it is the sole Erasmus Mundus Programme on Software Engineering.
Programme Objectives: The objective of our `European Masters Course in Software Engineering` (EMSE) is to train software engineers to meet the requirements of international software practice today, offering them an inter-European study programme based on the coordination of the strengths of each of the partner institutions. The partners` institutions have strong relationships with European software companies that guarantee that students of this programme will be able to deal with industry`s current problems.
[Europe] Master in Animal Breeding and Genetics by Erasmus Mundus Programmes
European Master in Animal Breeding and Genetics (EM-ABG)
The European Master in Animal Breeding and Genetics (EM-ABG) offers high quality training, both in terms of scientific knowledge and didactic skills, provided by six excellent university groups within the EU. The EM-ABG is a response to the need for highly qualified graduates in the internationally operating area of animal breeding and genetics.
Objective: The integrated European Master of Science Course in Animal Breeding and Genetics (EM-ABG) aims to offer high quality international training, both in terms of scientific knowledge as well as in didactic skills, provided by a limited number of excellent university groups within EU.
[Monaco] Project for a MSc/ MRes student on Coral and Anemone Physiology at Monaco Scientific Centre
Project for a MSc/ MRes student on coral and anemone physiology at the Monaco Scientific Centre.
We are seeking a motivated graduate student to conduct a research project on the influence of light on intracellular pH in symbiotic cnidarian cells. The project fits into a wider programme of research conducted at the Monaco Scientific Centre that concerns the physiology of tropical and temperate corals in the context of global environmental change, particularly ocean acidification. http://www.centrescientifique.mc/csmuk/presentation.php. The student will be joint supervised by Dr Sylvie Tambutte (Team Leader of the Physiology and Biochemistry Group) and Dr Alexander Venn.
The proposed project will provide the graduate student with the opportunity to acquire skills in cell biology, with an emphasis on the application of physiology to environmental issues. The applicant will need to be already enrolled in a masters programme at another institution, but the proposed project may fill part or all of a student`s requirement for research experience. The student will preferably have some laboratory experience with a background in physiology or cell and molecular biology. Duration of the project is flexible with a maximum of 6 months, with a flexible start date from January 2010. All bench fees/ laboratory costs are covered by CSM and a bursary of 300 euros per month is available.
The University of Milan announces a competition by selection on the basis of academic qualifications for the admission of non EU citizens to the following Research Doctorate/Ph. D. degree courses:
1. Mathematical Sciences from Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences, Mathematics: 1 position. 2. Ancient, literary, philological and art historical studies, Graduate School of Humanae Litterae: 1 position.
Studentships general rules 2 (two) studentships will be awarded to selected applicants. Further places within the above Graduate Schools will then be made available for selected applicants holding studentships awarded by other Bodies.
Requirements Applications for selection are invited from non EU citizens who do not reside in Italy and hold a foreign degree. The candidates` degrees will be recognised as equivalent to the Italian `Laurea magistrale` (exclusively for the purposes of this competition) by the competent Academic Board. The University can at any time exclude candidates lacking the admission requirements.
[Europe] Master Programme in Early Childhood Education and Care
IMEC Erasmus Mundus Master Programme IMEC Erasmus Mundus IMEC is a two-year international Master Programme (120 ECTS) in Early Childhood Education and Care. All students will follow a given structure, spending at least one semester at all three partner institutions.
IMEC is offered in cooperation between Oslo University College (Norway), University of Malta (Malta), and Dublin Institute of Technology (Ireland).
Learning objectives 1. To integrate research, professional development and policy at an advanced level within the field of early childhood education and care. 2. To gain knowledge of the tension between general policy targets, the increasing diversity of family structures and the need to strengthen children`s right as citizens. 3. To bridge the gap between quality provision and the lack of higher education and research within the field of early childhood education and care. 4. To explore the increasing pressure on early education and care systems arising from socio-economic and socio-cultural transformations, to focus not only on educational institutions but on children`s early learning in a broad variety of formal and informal learning contexts. 5. To foster critical awareness of cultural and individual diversity from a political and professional perspective.

[UK] PhD project in Space and Solar Plasma Physics at Queen Mary, University of London
PhD project in Space and Solar Plasma Physics Queen Mary, University of London
Applications are invited for a SEPnet funded (South-East Physics network, http://www.sepnet.ac.uk/) PhD Studentship within the Astronomy Unit, School of Mathematical Sciences, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL).
The project is related to exciting, major unsolved problems of solar physics such as coronal heating http://imagine. gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/ science/mysteries_l1/corona.html and solar flare dynamics. Type III radio bursts are believed to come from solar flare electrons that travel upwards, away from the Sun, on open magnetic field lines. The proposed work aims to fill the gap in understanding how the upwards moving electrons are accelerated and produce the observed radio emission. This will be achieved through kinetic-scale modelling of the phenomenon and numerical simulation results will be compared with radio and other wavelength observations. The project benefits from access to large-scale parallel 1000 core processor cluster via UKMHD consortium, while the radio data will be available via participation of QMUL in LOFAR-UK and SEPnet Astro consortia (http://astro.kent.ac.uk/ SEPNET/). The LOw Frequency ARray, LOFAR (http://www.lofar-uk.org/), is a next-generation software-driven telescope currently under construction in the Netherlands and UK.
